It’s not very hard to find this Vancouver beauty in gracing the pages in multiple fitness publications including Status, WBFF’s Fit & Firm, and Canada’s #1 Fitness Magazine, Inside Fitness. In addition to all of her magazine coverage, she now represents the shaker cup for all serious fitness athletes – SmartShake (www.smartshake.com). You can also catch Mindy in full training mode by subscribing to her YouTube channel at MindyFitK. Amidst balancing everything fitness related, Mindy’s acting career is starting to blossom too! Last year she appeared in one of my favorite shows, Smallville, and is now appearing with one of my favorite actors, Jean Claude Van-Damme! She is currently preparing for her WBFF Pro Debut and after seeing her progress over the last year, she will definitely be making her mark in the Pro Rankings. Coach Darren Mehling of Freak Fitness is making sure Mindy comes in with the best package possible. Watch out WBFF! Mindy Karuk is about to make a splash…and we know it will be a big one! We all know that stress isn’t good for our bodies…especially for hard-training athletes. So what can we do about it? First, we have to recognize that stress can come in many forms. Many of us think only of the psychological stress, caused by family, work, life events or persistent worrying. However, physical stress is just as real and just as dangerous for our bodies. Lack of exercise, poor diet, food allergies or even weather changes can be a physiological stressor for our bodies. In contrast, over training can also be a major stressor for our bodies. So why is stress bad for us? Stress can impact a multitude of physiological reactions in our bodies. Symptoms of excessive stress can be; insomnia, fatigue, weight changes (especially an accumulation of fat around the abdomen), headache, respiration problems, heart irregularities, digestive disturbances, and psychological upsets (e.g. anger, irritability, rage, depression, anxiety). These stress responses can result in further complications. For example, stress can disrupt sleep, which can result in hormonal imbalances and will also trigger more stress. Many hormones are up regulated during sleep, including growth hormone and melatonin. As you probably already know, growth hormone is a key anabolic hormone that helps to improve recovery, build muscle and decrease fat. Acute stress, such as a hard workout, produces the hormone cortisol in the adrenal glands. Cortisol serves the body in non-stressful times and when called to respond to an acute crisis, however, it can cause catabolic damage when levels are high during chronic stress such as over training. Over training can be a major stressor on the body that will prevent you from making the muscle and performance gains you’re after. Cortisol can cause catabolic damage when levels are high during chronic stress such as over training. Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler Talks Bicep Surgery, 2012 Season Gaspari Nutrition presents coverage of the Australian Pro Grand Prix 2012 Branch Warren didn’t go to Disney World after his big win at the Arnold Classic two weeks ago. After a brief stop home in Texas, he hopped on a plane and headed down under to Melbourne, Australia for the IFBB Australian Pro Grand Prix. 12agp_branch_wins-thumb So last night while you were sleeping here in the states, the 2x Arnold Champion was posing his way to a dominating victory in a field of nine. Warren looked to be a bit watery compared to his showing at the Arnold, but his condition was still right on and no one could touch his mass. No one could argue the unanimous first place votes Warren collected from the judging panel (headed by Australian-American Bev Francis). kefa290In the runner-up spot, Michael Kefalianos made sure Warren didn’t take this contest for granted. Kefalianos brings conditioning and slabs of muscle that make-up for what isn’t the prettiest structure. It just wasn’t enough to stand next to the massive Branch Warren. Third place went to Omar Deckard, who commendably improved his condition from the FLEX Pro last month and earned his way to his first-ever pro top three finish. On the ladies side, the pro figure contest proved to be a lot more exciting. After placing second at the Figure International two weeks ago, Erin Stern moved into the top spot in Australia. That’s two in row down under for Ms. Stern who delivered a nice balance of condition and muscle. Slipping to second was the reigning Figure Olympia and Figure International Champion Nicole Wilkins. The gap between them was minimal and it came down a slight improvement from Stern while Wilkins looked to be holding a little water. If you’re a fan of healthy competition, then you’ll be excited to see these two go head to head at the Olympia in September. Now that the show is over, Australian fans will get their chance to meet these great competitors at the Fit X sports expo. Check back to musculardevelopment.com for tons of pics from the expo!
