BIO:
Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, Jay grew up in the small town of Sterling Massachusetts. Jay grew up an active child working on the family farm and later for his brother’s concrete business. It has been said that much of Jay’ early development can be attributed to his childhood years of labor. Jay would begin his bodybuilding training on the day of his 18th birthday in 1991 and competed in his first show at the age of 19; the Teen Nationals in Raleigh, NC where he placed 1st. Jay would spend the next several years working with Bruce Vartanian and Chris Aceto. It was 1997 and with the aid of his mentors Jay won the 1996 Nationals to gain his pro card. Taking the following year off from competing, Jay made his pro debut at the 1998 Night of Champions in NYC placing 11th. From there Jay never looked back. Quickly becoming one of the top competitors in the IFBB, Jay soon found himself at the top of the sport, winning many of the top shows, including the Arnold Classic 3 times. Everything was going perfect for Jay, except for the fact that the most coveted title of all was continually out of his grasp; the Mr. Olympia. Year after year, Jay would fall short to the long time reigning champ Ronnie Coleman but in 2006 Jay finally toppled the unbeatable giant that would begin a 2 year reign as the New Mr. Olympia.
