Breaking News: Coleman Comeback Confirmed for 2010

As heard first on today’s episode of MuscleSport Radio, Ronnie Coleman will make his comeback at the 2010 Mr. Olympia. The eight-time Sandow winner said in a live interview that he just made up his mind “a few days ago.”

Coleman originally intended on competing in this year’s Olympia but his travel commitments with BSN proved to be too much and would have affected his preparation.

The back injury that caused him to finish in fourth place at the 2007 Mr. Olympia and subsequent surgery that made him sit out 2008 is 100 percent and was not a factor in Coleman putting off his comeback by a year. Coleman feels that the time off will be an advantage for him, as far as the back recuperation and not putting his body through contest prep for the past few years.

Coleman made a recent guest posing appearance at the Atlantic States in New York City and stated that he weighed under 300 pounds that night. During his active career, he said that he would go as high as 320 in the offseason and cut down to approximately 295 on stage.

Tied with Lee Haney for the most Olympia wins, Coleman still has that fire and desire to go out there and will make history with his ninth Olympia victory.

When ‘The King’ walks on the stage next year in Las Vegas, it will be the biggest comeback in bodybuilding history since Arnold Schwarzenegger returned in 1980 after five years away from competing.

On May 22nd, during a traffic stop in Dalworthington Gardens, Texas, former 8x Mr. Olympia, Ronnie Coleman told a police officer, who had pulled him over for speeding, that he was a fellow officer from a nearby town (in truth he is a former reserve officer). He quickly changed his story, and said he was a reserve officer and later said he was an officer for a hospital. He then produced his badge, which was expired since 2003. It is a little known fact, but Ronnie did not end his career as a reserve police officer on good terms with his department.

He was arrested, posted bail, and now faces charges of impersonating a police officer. I think it’s funny that for eight years, when he was the best bodybuilder in the world, every officer in his precinct turned a blind eye to his obvious steroid use. They should arrest those guys for impersonating police officers, not Ronnie. His traffic stop, and obvious involvement with anabolic steroids, makes this arrest look similar to the beginnings of a steroid investigation, not a routine traffic stop.

This is exactly how Art Atwood was arrested (a traffic stop), according to The New York Times:

In May, as Atwood drove away with the fake steroids, officers arrested him on a traffic violation. Searching his red brick town house, they confiscated $6,986 in cash, 2 computers, scales, tablets and capsules, a hollowed-out book, a 2007 Lexus and a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Court records show he was not charged with any drug violation “due to the fact that this is still an ongoing federal investigation.” Prosecutors would not say whether he would be charged with a crime.

Look familiar? Yeah, we all know how that one turned out. Art Atwood was arrested for speeding, and it turned out that it was really about steroids all along – they let him go, and several months later (when he still hadn’t been charged) we found out (again, in the New York Times) that he was a snitch. Hmmm….professional bodybuilder arrested for speeding…obvious steroid user…hmmm…

And we all know that Ronnie Coleman not only uses steroids, but his name had been publicly tied with them during theTexas-based Cellular Nucleonic Advantage case, which was part of the bigger (and botched) Signature Pharmacy bust.

Also, if you remember Operation Raw Deal and SteroidSuperBoard: “PSYCHO” (his screen name) was pulled over on a traffic stop leaving the home of “Molina” (also a screen name, of a former SSB admin). We all know how that turned out, right? Yeah, it was the online center of the biggest steroid bust ever.

Finally, it should be noted that Rick Collins, esq, has noted that “traffic stops” are often the first step in steroid cases – they allow the officers to establish where a person was on a specific date, and in this kind of case (where an arrest was made) it allows them to inventory the vehicle and everything in it. If Ronnie had steroids on him, or even a cellphone, with texts or voicemail that may have something to do with the illegal use of anabolc steroids, all of that information is now in L.E. hands.

I realize that a lot of this is speculative, but it fits perfectly with the way law enforcement conducts their drug busts – even down to the fact that they did it on a Friday…which is a common tactic, used on people who have been under observation for awhile, because usually it gives the arresting agency the entire weekend to detain – and question – the person they arrested (judges or magistrates typically need to set bail, and that’s usually on the following Monday when they get back to work). This is how they got (Screen name)”Prolangtum” to roll a few years back.

This weekend, with the three day federal holiday, would be the perfect time to pull this stunt, but I’m unaware of how Texas law operates specifically, so I can’t offer an explanation as to how you get arrested for impersonating a police officer + speeding, and are able to post bail and get released the same day.
